Riad Baya
Terrace at Riad Baya
Day 1: Upon arrival at the Marrakech Menara Airport guests immediately experience the vibrancy of this North African city as you enter the 950-year-old Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.It is here, in this ancient Medina, that you will find Riad Baya, home for the duration of your visit. We’ll be greeted with the typically warm Moroccan hospitality that we’ll quickly come to recognize! Dinner is served on the terrace at Riad Baya tonight.
Day 2: After a traditional Moroccan breakfast, a certified tour guide will meet us at Riad Baya for a walking tour of the Medina.
Medina Entrance
It’s always a good way to orient ourselves in the neighborhood. Therefore, we’ll visit historical sites, shop in the labyrinth of souks (markets), and visit Jmaa el Fna, the main square in Marrakech.
We’ll stop for lunch and a glass of freshly squeezed fruit juice along the way, returning to Riad Baya mid-afternoon. Tonight, there will be a farm visit where we will prepare and enjoy our own traditional Moroccan meal.
Day 3: After a traditional Moroccan breakfast at Riad Baya, we will visit a women’s cooperative where traditional goat cheeses are made. Learn about Moroccan cheesemaking processes and enjoy a picnic with local items. We’ll return to Riad Baya in the afternoon where we will be free to explore or enjoy the sunshine on the terrace on your own. Tonight, we’ll enjoy a street food walking tour.
A certified guide will show us the hidden food spots tourists aren’t likely to find on their own. Along with the 6+ food stops we’ll make along the way; we’ll also enjoy a behind the scenes experience at a local bread oven. Not only will we eat well, but we’ll discover a lot about the food culture of Marrakech.
Day 4: After breakfast it’s off to the seaside village of Essaouira, one of the filming sites for Game of Thrones (Slaver’s Bay). It is a 2 ½ hour drive from Marrakech. There will be multiple experiences to enjoy throughout this coastal city all, of course, with a heavy focus on food. Start with breakfast and a tea making lesson, grilled fish and seafood in the port, a short tour of the city, and specialty tajines and pastries on the way back to Riad Baya. We’ll explore the ramparts, port, and medina of this whitewashed village of Essaouira. We will be back at Riad Baya by the evening.
Day 5: After breakfast there is free time to explore Marrakech on our own. Visit museums, gardens, shops, coffee shops, or spend the day at the spa or the terrace — it’s up to you! We’ll arrange transportation for you. Dinner is served on the terrace at Riad Baya.
Day 6: After breakfast you will depart Marrakech with a suitcase full of memories and any goodies that caught your eye at the market or on our sightseeing travels.
No two tours are the same but each will be an unforgettable experience. For those interested our adventures can continue with a trip to the Sahara Desert.
